What times will the store be open?
The IAM Thrift Store is open 9-5, Tuesday through Saturday.
Why should I donate to Interfaith Assistance Ministry?
Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM) provides free crisis services to residents of Henderson County. Some of the services we provide include assistance with food (traditional and Latino); financial assistance with rent, utility bills, and prescriptions; clothing; bus tickets; gasoline vouchers; personal hygiene items; diapers; household linens; and pet food.
When and where can I donate?
Donations are accepted
Tuesday - Saturday 9 - 4
Please bring your donated items to the side door of the Thrift Store at 119 Jack Street. Thank you.
Do you offer free pickup of larger items or large quantities?
Yes! We offer free pickups of larger items like furniture, or a truckload of smaller items. We cannot send our truck to pick up a few boxes or bags and we ask that you drop those off at IAM.
(Note: We ARE accepting donations of furniture again. No particle board, please.)

What can I donate to the IAM Thrift Store?
Antiques
We accept: Antique furniture, décor, and collectibles
We do not accept: Moldy or musty smelling items
Appliances
We accept: Small kitchen appliances
We do not accept: Large appliances like washers, dryers, etc.
Art
We accept: Framed or matted art in great shape
We do not accept: Empty frames; art that is torn, stained or in broken frames
Books – Media
We accept: Books with no odors and in good shape
We do not accept: Cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, encyclopedias or textbooks
Building Materials
We accept: Hand and power tools, hardware
We do not accept: Windows, cupboards, lumber, plumbing fixtures, ceiling fans, paint, hazardous materials
Children’s Items
We accept: Clean clothing, toys and games, play furniture, mobiles, outdoor play items
We do not accept: Cribs or crib mattresses, car seats, walkers, changing tables
Clothing – Men’s and Women’s
We accept: Gently worn clothes in-season as well as shoes, purses, belts and accessories
We do not accept: Clothing that is stained, torn, ripped, or with an odor
Crafts
We accept: Fabric, thread, yarn, sewing supplies, scrapbooking supplies, craft paint, etc.
We do not accept: Fabric or yarn that has an odor, straw or dried flowers
Electronics
We accept: Boomboxes, stereo components, newer speakers, flatscreen Smart TVs, laptops
We do not accept: VHS players, old TVs, old computers, monitors, printers, fax machines
Exercise Equipment and Sporting Goods
We accept: High-quality golf clubs, balls, bats, fishing poles, outdoor games, hand weights
We do not accept: Golf bags, large pieces of exercise equipment such as treadmills or exercise bikes
Furniture and Rugs
We accept: Please call for information regarding furniture donations.
We do not accept: Furniture with stains, tears, odors or fading; armoires, sofa beds, futon frames without pad; particle board furniture, entertainment centers, large heavy desks, credenzas, mattresses, box springs, unbound carpet, pianos, or organs
Home Décor and Knick-Knacks
We accept: Decorative items in good shape, lamps, area rugs, runners
We do not accept: Broken items, dried or strawflowers, mini blinds, or valances
Jewelry and Watches
We accept: Costume and fine jewelry (Please give fine jewelry directly to a manager.)
We do not accept: We can use broken jewelry or an item missing its pair in our craft section.
Kitchen Items
We accept: Pots and pans, silverware, serving pieces, utensils, glasses (only in sets of 4), newer sets of dishes (at least 4 place settings)
We do not accept: Individual plates, bowls, glasses or coffee mugs; old glass serving pieces; anything broken, chipped or cracked
Lawn and Garden
We accept: Bird feeders and baths, flower pots, yard art, tools, outdoor furniture, lawnmowers, grills
We do not accept: Gas cans (unless antique, empty or new), open bags of fertilizer or birdseed
Linens
We accept: Bedspreads, coverlets, blankets, sheets, towels, shower curtains, throw pillows, tablecloths, napkins, placemats, curtains, vintage handkerchiefs
We do not accept: Anything stained, torn, ripped, or with an odor; used bed pillows
Luggage
We accept: Suitcases in good shape, antique suitcases
We do not accept: Suitcases with an odor or broken zippers, latches, wheels or handles; briefcases
Pet Supplies
We accept: Food, toys, beds, crates, clothing, leashes, collars, litter boxes
We do not accept: Pet medications
Seasonal
We accept: Various holiday decorations, Christmas trees in boxes or storage bags, ornaments
We do not accept: Unboxed Christmas trees in pieces, anything with broken or missing parts
Toiletries
We accept: New items for personal hygiene, make-up, etc.
We do not accept: Partially used beauty or hygiene products
IAM Welcomes Kathy Yaw
Thrift Store Manager
IAM is excited to welcome Kathy Yaw to our team as Thrift Store Manager. Kathy comes to us with 11 years of retail experience with Belk's Hendersonville store. "I love retail and I love thrift stores," says Kathy. Kathy is excited to get the Thrift Store launched in February and looks forward to helping customers find a great deal. "I want it to be a really fun place to shop," she adds. "I love that IAM helps the community in so many different ways and that it gives people a chance to get out of difficult situations in their lives."
Kathy is actively seeking volunteers to staff the Thrift Store. Positions available include cashiers, donation receivers, clothing sorters, and pricers, home goods sorters and pricers, and department specialists. To learn more about how you can help, contact Kathy at kathy@iam-hc.org.
